The entire Bible (including the cited passage from Isaiah) is centered around the message that the spiritual needs of humans are of far greater and more lasting importance than their material needs. Human needs are never fully satisfied by tangible items or possessions. There is always a desire or need for more, even with respect to items regarded as necessities, such as food and water. Any resources expended in the satisfaction of those needs will have to be continually replenished, and are thus subject to interuption or scarcity. They also cannot be taken beyond this life and world. By contrast, a relationship with God through faith in Christ results in eternal life in God's presence that will never end, and against which any earthly achievements or benefits pale in comparison. Jesus also expressed this idea in His discussion with the Samaritan woman at the well, as noted in John 4:13-14.
