The NASB has tried to render grammar and terminology in contemporary English while preserving the literal accuracy of the 1901 ASV. Special attention was given to the rendering of verb tenses to give the English reader a rendering as close as possible to the sense of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. In 1995, the text of the NASB was updated for greater understanding and smoother reading. This is the translation we used @ Dallas Seminary from 1971-1975, and I have many notes in it. And my own tabs I put on it.

One of my profs from whom I took Old Testament worked on it: Dr. Ken Barker (Former Professor of Old Testament Studies)—Former Executive Director of the NIV Translation Center; Translator for the NASB; Translator for the NIV, NIRV, and TNIV.

Also, a couple of my classmates did:

Dr. Buist Fanning (Chair and Professor of New Testament Studies)—Translator for the NASB Update; Translator for NET Bible
Dr. David Lowery (Professor of New Testament Studies)—Translator for the NASB Update; Translator for NET Bible (on my same floor 2 in DTS dorm for 4 years!)

As you can see, these teachers also worked on other translations.

Sample verse:
Hebrews 11:7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, [a]in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

[a] Lit having become reverent

Compare to KJV: Hebrews 11:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
