John 3:18 Believers are no longer condemned. That have accepted Jesus on sacrifice for all sin, past, present and future sin for the free gift of eternal life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus one blood sacrifice for all sin forever. 

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:9-10 There is none righteous, no not one. 

But Jesus died and took the punishment we all deserve so we would not have to go to hell to pay for our sins. Romans 4:6-8 He imputed His righteousness to us apart from works. He paid our sin debt in full so we can never be condemned again. We have nothing to boast in because we did nothing for it. 

Romans 3:26-28. Faith alone in Jesus free gift of eternal life. 

Faith is not a work. Faith is what we believe to receive the free gift. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace ye are saved, how, by a one time faith, and that not of yourselves, we did nothing for it but believe, it is the GIFT of God, not of works, you can not earn heaven, lest any man should boast. You can not boast in free.

John 3:36 KJV only. He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life, and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on Him.

Those of whom (or to whom) Paul is speaking in the verse cited in the question are not Christians, but (as previously referenced in Romans 2:4) those who have not repented of their sin and sought God's forgiveness through faith in Christ. For Christians, all of God's wrath and judgment for sin was placed on Jesus, and was satisfied when He died and then rose from the dead.

Although Christians will thus not face God's wrath, there will be varying degrees of reward in eternity for Christians, based on the witness and degree of service arising from their faith that they accomplished during their earthly lives. (Paul referred to this in 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.)

My view is that the wrath of God will never rest upon believers who have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. 

The Bible says in Romans 8:1-2 that "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death" (NKJV).

The wrath of God is best described in Revelation 16. Those who subscribe to the "Pre-wrath" or pre-tribulation premillennialism rapture theory hold that the church will have been snatched away from the earth before the advent of the tribulation period (2 Thessalonians 2:3-12). The wrath of God is intended for the wicked who persist in their rebellion. 

Notice the description of the wicked in Revelation 14:9-10 that says "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:" (NKJV). 

My view is that nothing in Scripture teaches or implies that God would visit His divine wrath upon the redeemed in Christ.

1Thess. 5:9 "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,"

Revelation 3:10 "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." I believe Jesus is promising Christians here in this verse an exclusion from the 7 year Tribulation period (God's wrath) which is foretold in:

Revelation 6:17 For the great day of his wrath [the wrath of the Lamb] is come; and who shall be able to stand?
