Let's go back in time. Marijuana has been around since God said 'Let there be light.' There was no law against anything. Drinking in public, crossing the street in a jaywalking manner, nothing. Using marijuana was not illegal.

Was it a sin to use it? That's the question. Nobody is asking whether breaking a governmental law is sin; most of us think it is. The question is whether the legal use of marijuana is sin.

I don't see what difference it makes. Getting blunted by marijuana use is as illogical and senseless as getting high on cocaine, or going slow on morphine, or getting drunk on liquor. Sin or not, it's dishonoring to the user. When we dishonor ourselves we dishonor everyone who cares about us.

These things aren't that difficult to discern. We don't need a hard rule written in our native language to know what we should and shouldn't do.

That's why God didn't cover things like drug use, specifically. He doesn't need to. We need to care more about whether we're hurting ourselves and our families, our communities, etc. If we're in relationship with God, our sins are forgiven; our relationship should keep us from doing a lot of things.

I don't refrain from being a jerk toward my wife Faye because it's sin. If I hurt her in some way it's sinful. That's not why I stay clear of that kind of thing. I try to treat her right because I don't want to damage our relationship. I don't want her mad at me!

If you think using marijuana will hurt your relationship, don't do it.
