How did Jesus answer Philip's question in John 14:8, "Lord, show us the Father and we will be satisfied."

John 14:9 - 21

ESV - 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the point or intent of the question, but the answer to it appears to have been plainly given by Jesus in the very next verse after the verse quoted in the question, when Jesus said to Philip, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."

The fact that Philip did not realize that, by seeing Jesus, he had already seen the Father was based on not comprehending that Jesus and the Father (although separate persons of the one Triune God) were of the same divine nature or essence, as elaborated on by the Athansian Creed, which can be viewed online at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athanasian_Creed.

Jesus' full answer may be found in John 14:9-21, I believe.

a. Christ: “I have been with all of you for a long time. Don’t you know me yet, Philip? [I'd probably have said, 'Don't you know anything yet, Philip?] The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? (John 14:9, GW)

b. Christ says that he is in the Father and that the Father is in him--"Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? (John 14:10, Phillips)

or

TPT
"Don’t you believe that the Father is living in me and that I am living in the Father?"

c. Christ: they will do greater things than he has done because he is going to the Father (John 14:11-14). See especially, John 14:12, NLT--

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

d. Christ: he will ask the Father to send them the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-21).

"Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you." (John 14:16, CEV)
