Can/should a believer enlist the help of a non-Christian life coach?
There are biblical passages on unequal yoking in the context of marriages. Is the spirit of restriction applicable to the context of life coaching?
2 Corinthians 6:14
ESV - 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

In my opinion, the Bible (for Christians) is the supreme source of knowledge on interpersonal relationships, and on one's personal conduct. A life coach who is not a Christian may have insights or provide instruction that is of practical value, but any actions or beliefs that the coach espouses or recommends to a Christian should always be considered in light of the world view and instructions taught in the Bible. (For example, any such coaching that starts from a premise of people being by nature "good" or capable through their own effort of moral perfection; or that views this life and world as the be-all and end-all of existence, and then builds on those assumptions, would (in my view) be fundamentally flawed.) The choice of such a coach would not have quite the same priority as the choice of a spouse, but a Christian should not accept the words or instructions of that individual unquestioningly or uncritically, especially when or if there is direct apparent conflict with Biblical guidance.

The biblical principle of “unequal yoking” applies to every close personal relationship we have in this life and world. It applies to marriage partners, business partners, mentors (life coaches) and close friends. It means that we, as Christians, are not to have these close personal relationships with unbelievers. Why is this so? Because an unbeliever is driven by the thoughts and desires of their “sinful human nature” and their lives are controlled by the “culture of this world” which is controlled by Satan and his demons. Doing so will lead us away from God. That is guaranteed because of the power of their influence over us. Doing so will lead to constant conflict about everything important in the relationship. The way of this World produces evil, wickedness, corruption and decay. The Kingdom of God produces justice, righteousness, love and faithfulness. The unbeliever does the will of this world. The believer does the will of God. They are never the same.
