According to the Word of God, as believers we have been instructed not to have any fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather we are to reprove them.

This instruction is found in Ephesians 5:11.

I believe that we should not participate in any religious practices of non believers. As believers in Christ we are the light of the world, and have been given the responsibility of sharing the truth of the gospel with those that are yet in darkness, and under the power of Satan the god of this world.

The bible is clear that we are not to do anything that could cause other Christians to stumble in their faith. Everything we do is watched by others. Our actions speak louder than our words. Everything we say and do is a testimony, either to the truth we know from the bible or to the lies and deceptions perpetuated by the world, controlled by evil forces.

In biblical times, this issue centered around eating meat that had been sacrificed to idols (see Romans 14:1-23). The apostle Paul says that food "means nothing" spiritually; we are free to eat whatever we want. However, if we become aware that the food has been sacrificed to an idol we shouldn't eat it, because someone else, who is just beginning in their faith, may see our example and be led back into a life of sin.

We can seek to engage and honour our friends, who are involved in other religious beliefs and practices, in many ways, that do not involve participation in religious rites and practices, that are not in harmony with our faith.

However, we need to be careful as Christians, not to become so fixated on our own "correct" Christian rites and practices that we refuse to associate with, fellowship with, or worship with other Christians who practice differently than we do. These attitudes do not bring the unity that Jesus prayed for.
