Should a church allow anyone, including a church member, to teach gun safety classes at the church?

Yes. We need responsible gun owners who are trained to handle the weapon properly.

There is a commandment in Leviticus that translators/interpreters have a difficult time taking from Hebrew to English: Lev. 19:16

Compare these two translations:

NIV: "'Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the LORD.

NLT: “Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the LORD.

KJV: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD.

In the first example - the NIV - you are to refrain from doing anything that would endanger your neighbor's life. That makes sense.

But in the second example - you are supposed to actively do something if your neighbor's life is under threat.

In the King James Version - what does it mean to "stand against the blood?"

Which one is it? According to most Jewish sources, you are not to idly stand by when your neighbor's life is threatened.

The Jewish Publication Society translates this verse as:
neither shalt thou stand idly by the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD.

Basically - to save a human life is the most important thing.

If your neighbor is threatened by someone with a gun - which is now commonplace in the United States - then someone with a gun must act to save the life of that person.

If a gunman enters a church - then everyone has a responsibility to stop that person from killing another human being. But how do you stop a bad guy who has a gun if you don't? You need a good guy -someone who would choose NOT to shoot someone - to stop the guy who wants to shoot someone.

We can say the same thing about WWII and the German genocide of the Jewish people (and others). If the Germans have a tank - then we need a weapon to stop a tank. If they have planes trying to kill people - then we need something to stop a plane.

As long as your heart is not filled with anger and a desire to inflict harm on others - then learning to use a weapon is a good thing.

As long as there is evil in the world - with weapons - we must have good people to stand up and know how to protect our neighbor.

A timely inquiry during perilous times and I humbly submit for your consideration that it would be a very wise action. Adding that any such instruction be presented by a top grade instructor. (Nehemiah 4:9)

If one is not known locally, endeavor in contacting the National Rifle Association which in fact is the oldest civil rights organization. And they will put you in contact with one of their excellent local instructors. One who is well versed in your state and local statutes governing fire arms.
(Nehemiah 4:11; Nehemiah 4:14; Nehemiah 4:16; Nehemiah 4:23)

The true warrior fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. On this civilized path of conduct, it is your moral legal responsibility to obtain all the correct and proper weapon training for their correct legal usage in very stressful situations. (Galatians 4:16)

Neighborhoods:
A nameless good Samaritan willing to get his hands dirty, crossed the road one might say from his comfort zone to help a nameless stranger who was in need. While the heavenly minded professionally pious simply could not be bothered with such worldly matters.

Yes, I know of a church in Wisconsin that allows it and even encourages it. It is for the safety of the other members of the church to defend against violent attackers with weapons intent on killing one or more of its members. And those with concealed weapons are encouraged to take training on how to confront a live shooter -- an active shooter-- or someone/some people with knives.

Of course, we can all pray to be delivered from attackers, but another measure of defense is to be ready for the sudden, unannounced taking of innocent lives (of the sheep).
