In the Old Testament God told a specific group of people in a specific point in history in a specific geographical location to fight specific people groups in specific cities or geographical locations. Jihad as put forth in Islam is non-specific. The command set forth is for all Muslims in all locations for all time to engage in jihad against all people, societies and governments until an Islamic government is in power in which all other religions are in submission or subjection to it. This is what Muslims mean when they talk about a religion of peace. Peace will be established once Islam reigns supreme, it is a bit of a different concept of peace than we think about here in the West. There are many ways to wage jihad, not just through violence as we are often led to believe but that is the topic for another question.

Beloved, I sincerely appreciate your expository analysis on this very tough issue. However, I try much to avoid explaining things of such to seriously- practising-Muslims on the simple truth of Genesis 16: 9-12, especially verse 12 . "10. And the angel of the Lord said unto her, ?................12.And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. (Genesis 16:9-12 KJV. This Angelic prophecy coupled with Abraham's pleading which resulted in our God' s promise to make Ishmael a nation (Gen.21: 12-13) has been and remain my watchword when dealing with them. No nation can live in isolation! They will for ever live to this prophecy,most especially the hardened ones except they accept new birth. The other problem they often times professed to have,(that make them to love killings under the guise of Jihad) is Jesus being the Son of God; unfortunately to them, this is my only solution of salvation and assurance of my eternity in the Mansion HE has gone to prepare for me. Obviously, excuse of Jihad or likeable old "Crusades" can no longer stand with the teaching and preaching of my Lord Jesus Christ. Shalom.

The Koran 22:19, Koran 9:123 tells them to kill. We as Christians are told to go and preach the Word and if they will not receive what we are teaching "knock the dust off our feet and keep moving" Matthew 10:14-15, "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city." That is the difference between the two. One tells their followers to kill non believers and Christians are told to just warn them and preach the Gospel and walk away if they will not listen. That is the main difference in a people that follow two demons and a follower of Jesus Christ moving to your town!
