What does the fire represent when Paul says, "He himself will be saved, yet as through fire"?
What is Paul saying through the Holy Sprit when he says, "If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire"? What does the fire represent?
1 Corinthians 3:13 - 15
NKJV - 13 Each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.

To me, the meaning of this discourse is: The way you will know if works are of God, they (the works) will survive even fire (representing the strongest of test). If not, the one declaring the works are of God will survive but might get singed a bit.

I would say that the fire represents the omniscience of God, which will reveal the true nature of the conduct and motives of Christians who -- although having a genuine saving faith in Christ as a foundation -- built upon that foundation with actions that were self-centered, or intended to promote their own self-satisfaction, recognition, and welfare, rather than arising from a desire to serve and obey God, to further the spread of His kingdom, and to benefit others.
