Dear Christian Friend, I believe that Satan has only the power to whisper around us. The temptation lies within.

Allow me to explain myself: I am walking down the street minding my own business, perhaps humming the latest gospel tune, suddenly a thought crosses my mind that an oncoming man is very good looking. Now, was this my thought? No! It was a whisper from the enemy. What I do with it will determine how hard the fight is going to be. 

Satan cannot read my thoughts, but he can read my reactions. Do I take a misstep? Do my eyes wander up and sweep over the crowd to find this Mr. Wonderful to gaze upon and hopefully catch his eye? Do I stand a little straighter, adjust so I am presenting my own body in a more favorable manner? All these things say Satan's whisper was accepted. You can bet he will do it over and over again!

However, if we get a whisper like that and we immediately plead the Blood of Jesus over our minds and hearts asking Jesus to direct our pathways Proverbs 3:5-7 then the enemy will flee from us as we have resisted him! 

Can Satan talk to us in our dreams? Of course! Whatever we have listened to during the day, he will undoubtedly repeat those whispers during the night season when we are most vulnerable. This is why it is imperative to pray before you sleep, asking for Jesus to protect your heart, mind, and soul during your sleep. Only Jesus can protect us. He defeated Satan years ago on the cross!

I would say that, although the Bible definitely records God as sending dreams or speaking through them, Satan would not be able to do so on his own, but only through God's permissive will for God's purposes.

Job 7:13-15 records Job as speaking of having dreams and visions so terrifying that he wanted to die. Since God had placed Job (whom God Himself had described in Job 1:8 as being "blameless and upright") in Satan's power (Job 2:6), Satan must have been the source of those dreams and visions (although Job, in his ignorance of the discussions between God and Satan, attributed them to God).

As Christians we need to be careful that we don’t spiritualize everything that happens in our lives. That includes dreams. Most people have very bizarre dreams that mean nothing. Recent research into brain activity is leading scientists to believe that human dreams are the way our minds integrate our feeling experiences into our memory banks.

Just because God has spoken through dreams in the past does not mean he will always speak to us in dreams. The primary way God has spoken to us is through his Son, Jesus, and through his written word. When God chooses to lead and guide us through dreams, his message will be clear and convincing. It will not be troubling and disturbing.

As Christians, we need to claim God’s promise of 24/7 protection over our bodies, souls, and spirits against all forms of evil. That includes our minds and dreams. 

I am not aware of a single example in scripture where a believer was told a dream by Satan and then acted on that dream.
