When you sin, is it true that you don't need to ask for forgiveness because Jesus already nailed your sin to the cross?

I was listening to a minister and he said that when you sin, you should not ask for forgiveness because you were already forgiven when you gave your life to Christ, and he nailed your sins to the cross. God now judges your heart, not the sin.

Colossians 2:14

ESV - 14 By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Yes, if all sin was paid for on the cross thanksgivings for our forgiveness is all we need to offer up when we fall. Our flesh falls not our new man. 1John 1:9 refers to gnostics who in the church at that time thought, as all pantheists believe, that people are born pure not "corrupt" as the bible says.
