The aforementioned Simon by Michael said he was a father of 2 sons. Mention of Simon's sons maybe shows that they were well-known Christian converts @ the time the Gospel was written. One son might have been known to Paul, who wrote: "Greet Rufus, eminent in the Lord, also his mother and mine" (Romans 16:13) -- suggesting that the apostle felt especially close to both of them. By identifying Simon of Cyrene with Simeon called Niger, tradition oft pictures the one who carried the cross as a black man.
