It's a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance that Paul tells us that if "One died for all, therefore all died." 2Corinthians 5:14 Now, How did we die "in Christ" almost 2,000 year ago? We need to keep this in mind too, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord." Isaiah 55:8 ESV. If we accept the negative easily (our sins through Adam), we must also agree with the positive without further arguments (the righteousness and justification in Christ Jesus). Hence, I do call it one versus ONE. Through Adam, we all came on earth and inherited his trespass and sin. Also through Jesus Christ, "we" are all going back to God as we inherit His obedience and righteousness. How God put the whole mankind in Adam and declared us sinners is the same as the way He (God) put the whole human race in Christ Jesus and call us Righteous. The only thin line of demarcation from death (sin) to life (Righteousness) is the gospel which all have not heard sincerely. And this is the vital key of accessing the righteousness of God unto this salvation truth we are talking about. "For I am not ashamed of THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST, FOR IT IS THE POWER OF GOD TO SALVATION FOR EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. FOR IN IT THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IS REVEALED FROM FAITH TO FAITH; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16,17 NKJV. If all could hear the true gospel and believe, all will be saved. Apostles Peter and Paul declared that God wants all men to be saved (2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:3,4). Remember this words of truth "In Him you also trusted, AFTER YOU HEARD THE WORD OF TRUTH, THE GOSPEL OF YOUR SALVATION; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory." Ephesians 1:13,14 NKJV Finally, all truly died in Christ Jesus; but not all will be resurrected into eternal life because not all truly heard or believed. Peace be to all Saints in Christ Jesus. My understanding of this verse is that it is replying to the assumption that because "all have sinned" and "the wages of sin is death" that everyone is sentenced to die. Only through Jesus, you have already died and therefore your sentence has been fulfilled! Interesting to me is that the verse in Greek says "apothnaceko pas apothnaceko " literally "the dead all died". Who are "the dead" who died? Those sentenced to die who Jesus died for, ALL. They died by proxy, Jesus. Of course we know from elsewhere in the Bible for that proxy death to be applicable requires Faith in Jesus. Once Faith in Jesus has been applied, because we died through Him, our death sentence has been fulfilled and we no longer have to die! Glory and Praise to our Lord most high!

The simple answer is that this is St Saul’s “I die daily”. We were once sold into slavery by Eve and Adam. The sacrificial gift of our Redeemer the Lamb was the highest price that Father God could possibly pay for us. Now that we are set free from being slaves to doing things my way, free to choose our own ideas of what is right, we do so quickly become enslaved again by the daily choices that bind us to the path of those decisions. There are things we cannot say no to that have bound pur freedom. Paul is saying the only way we can be free is to choose to become a slave of our Saviour, as obedient as He is to our Fathers love. Afraid to offend or ignore Him. We cannot be a bit free and a bit obedient. We must die to self as Christ has died. Every day and in every way. Paul is saying his free-will choice is to become God’s beloved slave. Think of the violin string coiled new in its envelope. Taken out it is free to bend any way it wants, but it cannot sing. If stretched tight into the violin it is no-longer free to coil, but now it will sing
