To me, what this verse is primarily implying is that, as citizens of heaven by faith (even while being on earth), Christians should be vigilant not to behave in a manner that would bring their spiritual country into disrepute, just as earthly citizens of a country such as the United States should not take actions while traveling abroad that would cause people from outside that country to have a negative impression of it, or that would bring the country's name into disrepute among other people.

They should be conscious that they are acting as earthly "ambassadors" of heaven, and that people will form an opinion of Christians and Christianity based on Christians' actions, and how those actions conform to the beliefs and standards that Christians claim to hold and obey.

Therefore, I would say that Christians should attempt, to the best of their ability and with God's help, to conduct themselves in a manner that gives a witness to others both of their faith, and of their love for God and for other people; to tell others about the heavenly country to which they are journeying (which -- unlike earthly countries -- will last forever); and to invite others to make the same journey with them through faith in Christ.

Colossians 3:3 Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When we accept Jesus finished work on the cross as full payment for all our sin, We are already in heaven awaiting the resurrection of our new sinless bodies. 

Our lives are hidden with Christ. John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, Hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life. We are dead, but our lives are hidden with Christ in heaven.

As First John 1:3-4 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know ye have eternal life.



Not because we have done anything to deserve it, but just because Jesus loved us. So He took our place of judgement before God to save us from all sin. There was no other way we could be saved. If we could have done anything to save our selves, then Jesus died in vain. 

John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that all that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have eternal life, AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY.
