Each of us has different reasons in asking for forgiveness. Some people ask for forgiveness of their sins because they fear going to purgatory. Other people ask for forgiveness because they are truly sorry for offending God and causing others pain. True and absolute forgiveness is given to people who are remorseful for offending God and causing emotional or physical pain to people whom they know.
