I've been counseling for years due to some very traumatic experiences over the years and I have found that only a Christian counselor works healing. As a believer it is very important that my counseling is grounded in scripture and prayer. One example I'll share with you is being advised to pray Psalm 23 everyday for depression. Wow what a difference this made in my life! Only another believer will have the Holy Spirit which is the wisest counselor there is.

Psychoanalysis has something to do with delving into a person's subconscious and dredging up suppressed memories or dealing with free-floating fear. The reader can go look it up for himself.

We could then ask "how much does the Bible even address such a topic?" I'm one that doesn't think the Bible is meant for such overt therapy. But we could ponder how much fear-of-death is evidenced by such free-floating anxiety and suppressed feelings.

Maybe we should ask whether psychoanalysis is innately unbiblical. Depending on the therapist, "life coach" (or whatever), is what matters.

Considering all the ancient cultures that did now worship the God of the Bible, then we can ask ourselves whether they were merely surviving, or thriving in the fullness of God's design for 'His people'. I would say that anybody that's dealing with a crippling mental-malady that necessitates psychoanalysis from a professional, then they're goal is to minimally function. We should save the 'opportunity to 'thrive part' for those that know Christ as their personal Savior.
