What comes first, faith or works?
James 2:14 - 26
ESV - 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food.

It is Faith that produces Works, not Works producing Faith. This is the point that makes what you do consistent with the Spirit in your case. Yes, we have a lot of people and many religions that imply that works makes Faith apply to you, but that is NOT the case of the Bible and Salvation. Note that a good example is the ministers that are in Chapter 6 of Mathew at the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus noted they were not of him but using their works to claim salvation and were rejected.
