This is a solid question, Celeste! Some say that meditation can be demonic if it's a mind-emptying practice. They say that such meditation can create a "cleaned house" that's ripe for demonic activity. In Matthew 12:43-45 Jesus talks about how spirits without homes roam around searching for "houses" that have been tidied up to live in. Meditation that clears the mind is pretty much a "clean house." It's a perfect spot for demonic activity to start or start again. We exist in a world full of spirits. Even if we don't accept that demonic beings are real, they still exist. Just like in Jesus' time, demons trouble people and even take over some folks. Eastern meditation seems to be one way demons get in and impact people. If you don't want demons to have sway in your life, then stay away from that kind of meditation that tries to clear your mind. Instead, meditate on… God (Isaiah 28:3) God’s Law (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:2) "In Psalm 1:2 the Hebrew imperfect verbal form [he meditates on] draws attention to the characteristic behavior described here and lends support to the hyperbolic adverbial phrase “day and night.” The verb הָגָה (hagag) means “to recite quietly; to meditate” and refers metonymically to intense study and reflection." -- bible.org God’s ways (Psalm 119:15) God’s works (Psalm 143:5) What is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8) For more on this, see "Four Spiritual Dangers In Eastern Meditation" (The four spiritual dangers in Eastern meditation are its non-Christian roots, mind-emptying issues, the potential to invite demonic affliction, & its self-focus over God-focus.)
