What does the image in the King of Babylon's dream represent?
Does the image mean we are nearing the end of the church era?
Daniel 2:29 - 45
ESV - 29 To you, O king, as you lay in bed came thoughts of what would be after this, and he who reveals mysteries made known to you what is to be. 30 But as for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because of any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your mind.

Nebuchadnezzar' s image represented four kingdoms that would exist upon the earth. His was represented by the golden head. It would be the strongest. The silver, the brass and the clay each stood for weaker kingdoms. History shows us the past has contained empires fitting the description in the image. What does this mean for us today? Deuteronomy 29:29, "The secret things belong to the Lord Our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law." When God tells us something we are to take it by faith! 1 Corinthians 1:20,25 "Where is the wise? Where is the scribe?... Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, the weakness of God is stronger than men." Daniel was given a gift to tell the King what no other man could. Daniel 2:26, "...Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?" Romans 16:25, tells us that there are secrets that God reveals and that the prophetic scriptures are made known to establish a firm faith. 1Corinthians 1:7,8 "so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." Notice this is Paul speaking many many years ago. He was expecting The Lord! Luke 17:20, 24,30 - Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come. It was believed that cosmic signs (Joel 2:28-32) would tell of its approach. Jesus corrected them. The Kingdom is within you. He also told them that when He returns, it will be sudden. It will be like in the day of Lot! 2 Corinthians 6:2, Paul quotes Isaiah reminding them God is listening and ready to help. Indeed He is today. He hears, He cares, and He loves each one. We are in an age of Grace that began a long time ago. Is the clock ticking? Every second of every day- yes. In Luke 15:6,7 Jesus talks about the joy in heaven about one lost who is now found! Matthew 24:36,42 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, but my Father only. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming." 1Thessalonians 5:2, "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of The Lord so comes as a thief in the night." 1Timothy 6:11,16 - Paul warns against materialism. We are to pursue the good things. We should try to imitate Christ. God will make manifest the return of Christ in HIS OWN TIME. Do we know when that is? We can be sure of this, It may happen at any time. God can say that the cup of wrath is full and the fullness of the Gentiles has come. The fields may be ripe for the harvest...stay close to God.

The head of gold represents Babylonian reign featuring King Nebuchadnezzar. Well, it was his dream. The shoulders of silver represented the Medo-Persian empire. The copper in the waist area was symbolic of the Greek dynasty. The legs of iron indicated the Roman empire, and was considered the final of the 4 predicted empires. The feet of iron and clay must represent the revised Roman empire. The iron doesn't change, neither would the location. However, the clay that is mixed in denotes much less military strength. Enter the Roman Catholic Church. The main reformers of Luther's era, believed that the papacy would produce the end time antichrist. Remember that the pope is the so called "Vicar" (replacement) of Christ. I wonder if the statue of Nebuchadnezzar, and the revised and final empire of Rome, lead them to (or even added to) that conclusion?
