Why did God reveal the image in Daniel to the King of Babylon before he gave it to Daniel?

The image was give to the King first, then after the threat of assassination of all wise man of Babylon. Daniel received a revelation from God that was exactly what the King had seen. It was an image that is 9 feet wide and 90 feet tall. That is weird. Why was it shaped this way and was NOT given to Daniel and his three buddies FIRST? 

Daniel 2:1 - 49

ESV - ¹ In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him. ² Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.
