God's conviction Never beats you up nor condemns you. Instead you will feel remorse for your sin and have a desire for forgiveness. God's conviction never ever makes you feel beat up. If you feel remorse it is God. Condemnation is not God.

About your Question: Discerning ones own guilt vs. feeling a conviction from The Father... God is a gentleman, his ways are not like our ways... His conviction comes in the form of "Enlightenment", why? Because He Is The Greatest Light Right? So when you feel convicted in any kind a form of Darkness, it's not from Our Father God. He is The Light and Brings Light to our eyes to see the error of our ways Gently :) & effectively :) & Permanently :) I hope this helps You and brings Peace to Your Heart :) as well. :)
