Spiritism comes in many forms and labels. They may or may not include the bible but most of the time they shy away from the wisdom and knowledge of the scriptures and especially Jesus Christ.
Higher power is a term most often used in these false teachings today. God is used occasionally but Jesus Christ is always excluded.The use of humanism, astrology, palm reading, ECT.ECT. are or may be intermingled with scripture.
The rules are bent, changed and replaced to fit the needs of the teachings or teacher. Confusion is always apart of the demonic doctrines. Where their is confusion their is evil at work. 1st Corinthians 14:33 Peace has no place where the doctrines of devils arise in humanities teachings.
Self help and motivational teacher are all after one thing. It drives their engine gaining wealth unto themselves by selling their books and taking their courses.
Just like the teaching of tithing which is under the law has its motivation to prosper the church and the managing functions of the church. This is not necessarily bad because most hospitals, schools, universities, colleges, orphanages and charities are created by this wealth.
We all want the church to prosper but giving to the church is not commanded in the new testament covenant. Giving to the family members in need in the church should always be the first priority of the church but church is in our age as in past ages has become somewhat business oriented in its management but what household doesn't practice the same thing hopefully.
Spiritism is and always will be affiliated with familiar spirits and the doctrines of devils. You really only need the holy scriptures and history. I mention history only because history warns us of the evil of the past and the good that eventually rose up against it to finally defeat it.
Evil will arise again and again as it did in the past and during the coming tribulation but this time the Lord will end this rebellion against God. Remember! 1st Corinthians 14:33 Where there is confusion there is evil at work. God is not an author of confusion; that is the devil's playground.
