This Revelation was transmitted 

FROM God 
► to Christ, 
► Christ to the angel, 
► Angel to John, 
►John to the churches, 
► Churches to us. 

The messages to the churches are given immediately after the vision of Christ of Rev 1. These "things" were to take place from John's day to and including the eternal events of the new heaven and new earth. The events are consecutive in order with parenthetical passages inserted between the main events, which explain certain things that are to happen along with the main events but are not the same as these events. The book has three clearly-defined divisions (Rev 1:19), the contents of which follow each other in the following order: 

1. "The things which thou hast seen," i.e., the vision of Christ in the midst of the candlesticks (Rev 1:12-20), which, together with the introduction to the whole book forms chapter 1. 

2. "The things which are," i.e., the seven letters to the seven churches in Asia Minor, or present Turkey, to whom the whole book is addressed (Rev. 2:1--Rev 3:22). These messages to the churches apply to the whole church age and until the rapture of the church just before the future tribulation and coming of the Antichrist, who will be here for the last seven years of this age (Dan 9:27; 2 Th 2:7-1 Rev. 6:1--Rev 19:21). 

3. The things which shall be hereafter," i.e., events after the rapture of the church (Rev. 4:1--Rev 22:5). These include the scenes in heaven (Rev. 4--Rev 5), the seven seals and their parenthetical statements (Rev. 14:1--Rev 19:21), the Millennium (Rev 20), and the new heaven and new earth (Rev. 21:1--Rev 22:5), and events of the conclusion (Rev 22:6-21). If the things of Rev 4:1 on must be after the things of the churches, then they will not be fulfilled along with the things of the churches. This means that every event of Rev. 4--Rev 22 must be fulfilled after the rapture of the church. It also means that no historical or present event could possibly be a fulfillment of any event of Rev. 4--Rev 22.

The writer of the book of revelation was the Apostle John. He related many words that he heard spoken to him by God himself, his Son Jesus Christ and also an angel at different times. He also reported on what he saw.

In Revelation 21:1-2, John reported what he saw.

In Revelation 21:3-4, the one who spoke is likely the Word of God, or Spokesman, Jesus Christ. Or maybe another authorized powerful heavenly being.

The voice pronounced words which convey the very good news consequent upon the descending of the New Jerusalem, symbolising the taking over of the RULERSHIP of the earth by God's Kingdom. The words assure us that conditions on earth will certainly change for the better under the rulership of Jesus Christ as head of God's government. See Isaiah 9:6-7.

In Revelation 21:5-8, the Almighty God himself spoke to give a guarantee to mankind of the certainty of and truthfulness of what was written in verses 3-4.

"And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine). And He [further] said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life. He who is victorious shall inherit all these things, and I will be God to him and he shall be My son. But as for the cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)--[all of these shall have] their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death "(Revelation 21:5 - 21:8 AMP).

I humbly submit that the speaker here is in fact the writer of this book "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" by the apostle John the beloved.

(Revelation 1:1) He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John

(Revelation 4:2) At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.

(Revelation 21:1) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

(Revelation 21:5) He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then He said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

The speaker in Rev 21:1-8 and more was John called "The Beloved Disciple" by Jesus. He was 1 of the original 12 Apostles. He wrote the 4th book in the New Testament and 3 Epistles that bear his name and 1, 2 and 3.

John, his brother James and their father Zebedee were Galilean fisherman. Jesus called them to follow him. (John 13:23) John was the one that leaned on Jesus during the Last Supper. (John 18:15) John was known by the High Priest. (John 19:26) John was entrusted by Jesus (while on the cross) to take care of His mother, Mary. Jesus called him and his brother James the "Sons of Thunder".

John was exiled under Emperor Domitian to the Island of Patmos in the Mediterranean Sea, where he wrote the Book of Revelation. John was taken by an Angel into the future to see the things that would happen in the End Times as we know it. There He was instructed to write what he saw and he revealed it in the 27th and last book in the Bible.

I recommend you read the book of Revelation (you are promised a blessing from God) and will learn many of the things that will happen in the End Times.
