Why does it feel sometimes that God is so far away?

How can I respond to this feeling? Are there scriptures that address it or offer encouragement?

I think most of us have felt this at times, but James 4:8 has the answer:
'Come near to God and he will come near to you.' He continues, 'Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.' which indicates the reason we feel far from God is due to sin, impurity in our hearts or 'double-mindedness' which James speaks about earlier in his epistle. ' But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.' (James 1: 6 - 8)

We need to examine our lives, our hearts, our motives and let the Holy Spirit show us what it is that is keeping us from feeling His presence. He will, if we ask Him. Then we have to come in repentance and faith to Him, not doubting that He will come near to us. Hope this helps.

Funny thing, He isn't far away at all. We are. Our feelings can be our worst enemy sometimes. God and our relationship with him is a faith walk, not a feeling walk. Like, today I sense God in my life. When I woke up yesterday, I couldn't find him; he was so far away. That's feelings.

Sometimes he puts us into the wilderness. You pray, seek, search, beg, cry out, and nothing. You can become so down that what is happening is God puts people there to do a work, a faith work, not a feeling work.

He is changing us from the inside. Putting a Holy Spirit spotlight on our heart. When we finally come out of the wilderness, we have grown and can then see that it is a faith and a stronger walk, not a feeling. One can never rely on feelings, they will always lead one astray. If God speaks to you or seeks your attention, the feeling or sensation is completely different from human feeling.

When the Spirit of God grabs your attention, human feelings play no part. God isn't hard to find; he hasn't moved; we have. Even if in the wilderness, He is there, working, changing, the potter moulding the clay. He is always there; it's us that don't see it.
