I had a coworker who was agnostic/atheistic. (He was never clear except he objected to the God of the Bible.)

In an unguarded moment started to admit that he could not believe in God because if he did, he would have to change.

Fundamentally, atheists believe as they do because they cannot stand the idea of being answerable to a Sovereign and Holy God.

Their so-called science is based on a shifting foundation of unprovable axioms and premises. Essentially, they are faith-based philosophies and nothing more.

To men who reject Christ, the theory of God being a delusion is just something to shut their guilt off. Each person was given God's spirit. Jesus poured his spirit out on the earth after he returned to heaven and when you reject that spirit you blaspheme against God and there is no more Salvation for that man. So calling God a delusion is the only way to shut out his own guilt which is screaming inside him that he's wrong. That is also why these men are so bitter and so hateful when you oppose their opinion.
