Why are the prophecies of the end times so harsh on Christians?

They are not. And if you think they are you have misunderstood them, in my opinion. Maybe you have been confused by some human interpretations of prophecy such as dispensationalism or the tribulation, neither of which are biblical teachings. All that we can say is that at the end, Jesus will return suddenly, at a time we do not expect and cannot predict, and will usher in judgment and bring those who have put their trust in him to full and complete salvation. That is not a hard thing for believers. Regards Philip
