Not only should we love ourselves because God first loved us, and He deems us all lovable, but we should love ourselves because GOD CREATED US IN HIS IMAGE, male and female (Genesis 1:27). How awesome! To not love ourselves and not respect ourselves would be contrary to loving and respecting God (Psalm 139:14). The way we treat ourselves is a reflection to other people of what we think of God and His greatness. How we respond to God's transformative love and redemption should be evidenced in our respect for ourselves as well as other people. Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39). However, any narcisissism or hubris on our parts would destroy any testimony we share. These are not from God.
