Nowhere in the Scripture does it say "Thou shalt not want to die." Job was going through extreme anguish when he said: Job 3:11 Why died I not from the womb? Why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? So I believe there is nothing wrong with wanting to die when you are going through pain or suffering. But the Bible does tell us "Thou shalt not kill" in Exodus 20. It is one thing to want to die, but a whole different thing to actually kill yourself.

Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. It is not ours to dispose of. Suicide contradicts the natural inclination of the human being to preserve and perpetuate his life. It is gravely contrary to the just love of self. It likewise offends love of neighbor because it unjustly breaks the ties of solidarity with family, nation, and other human societies to which we continue to have obligations. Suicide is contrary to love for the living God. If suicide is committed with the intention of setting an example, especially to the young, it also takes on the gravity of scandal. Voluntary co-operation in suicide is contrary to the moral law. Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide. We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives.

Suicide is wrong. I think all Bible students agree to this but Christians do get depressed and request of God to take them. Refer to Jonah after prophesying to Ninevah and Moses wanting God to take him rather than punishing Israel. I can recall at least one more but it is not coming toe now.

I can't imagine not wanting to die since that is the only way to live in heaven with Jesus. Whenever we pray the Lord's prayer we express a desire for his kingdom to come. While that might refer to the last days of earth, his kingdom will also come to us through our own death. That being said, I am very attached to earth, too, and have an ongoing battle to keep my attachment to this "foreign land" under control. God is the decision maker as to when and how death occurs. So, while we might long for heaven, we need to wait for God to designate our final breath even if living becomes painful. We are not aware of the overall plan of the master and taking matters into our own hands can disrupt this plan. It can also interrupt the blessings that are always a by product of pain. Suicide is the most passive act one can chose -- the ultimate running away while leaving behind others to grieve and gasp.

You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. People who ask to die may have not yet come to understand that they are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and that hey (their bodies) do not belong to themselves any more. They have been bought at a precious price: THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST ON THE CROSS ON THE MOUNT OF GOLGOTHA. If it is time to die, any one (believer or unbeliever) can die even just in a normal sleep. No one needs to ask for that because we will all die (physically) to fulfill the sentence of the Mighty God in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:17-19) Note that unbelievers are dead spiritually until the accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their own saviour and Redeemer for the wage of sin is death)...Romans 6:23 This can make them(unbelievers)scared of any suffering (pain) and the after life; for they have been carnal and refused to believe.So they will ask to die to escape the refining (because they do not know how much Jesus suffered for them); for suffering how small or big it may be for a believer THE FAITH IN JESUS WILL KEEP HIM OR HER, THROUGH, WILL HAVE HOPE THAT AFTER THE REFINING FIRE (SUFFERING) THE PURE GOLD(JEW WILL BE THE RESULT. Job in his suffering cursed the day he was born and asked for death; but do you know what happened when the refining was complete??? The Lord God re-established him and gave back 7 folds every thing he (Job) had lost during the refining....Read carefully the book of Job and you will discover these facts

Well as believers, we know that nothing happens to us without God's awareness. The same God said in a portion of the bible that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. My opinion is that in any situation we find ourselves, we should give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. Suicide is not answer or solution to any problem; your dependency and trust in your maker (God) brings solution. He is a faithful God. He has the key of life and of death; He alone has the ultimate power to deliver one from suffering. As Christians, we should learn how to challenge God sometimes by using the grace we have.

Samson, who was definitely a flawed man, but who was still included in the list of the heroes of faith mentioned in the epistle to the Hebrews (Hebrews 11:32), prayed in Judges 16:30 that he might be allowed to die with the thousands of Philistines who were about to perish as a result of Samson's destruction of their temple to their pagan god Dagon. (Samson's request may have been somewhat mitigated by the fact that the Philistines had previously put out his eyes, thus seemingly limiting his degree of service to God. However, if Samson's request had been against God's will, God would still have been capable of miraculously saving his life, as He had on previous occasions when Samson appeared to have been rendered powerless (as in Judges 15).) God also preserved Elijah's life (rather than punishing him) when Elijah prayed to be allowed to die because of the persecution he was facing from King Ahab and his wife Jezebel (1 Kings 19:1-8).
