Good question even Pilot asked the same though the truth was in front of him and he did not recognize Him. John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. KJV Perhaps after reading Michaels answer we may want to ask who is truth, this question may serve us better, because once we know who truth is then we will know what truth is. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth KJV John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ KJV John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KJV John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. KJV John 15:26 6 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: KJV John 16:13 3 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. KJV Our search for the what will lead us to the who, and once we know the who we will know the what. To search for truth is a great exploit and is ever enduring and one may never really know truth until they have died and entered into eternal life. It seems to be incomprehensible. I would like to pick up on something Michael said “Truth must originate from somewhere.” As Christians we know the answer. Truth originates in God’s revelation to us. Why? Because he is the creator of the universe. Because God is the author of all things, including human beings, he has the right to decide what is true and what is false, and how and when he will reveal his truth to us. How has God made his revelation of truth known to us? 1) Through the bible which is the Word of God Every word in this book is true because the author is the Holy Spirit who inspired and directed human beings what to write in each book of the bible (2 Timothy 3:16) 2) Through the creation of the universe (Genesis 1: 1 to Genesis 2:25) The existence of the physical universe provides a lot of truth for humans to understand the world we live in. Science has done a tremendous job of discovering this truth and formed various laws and theories about how and why the physical world exists as it does. 3) Through the person of Jesus Christ The Son of God became the Son of Man, a human being, to fulfil God’s salvation plan and reveal what God is like, including his will for human beings. (John 1:1-18, Hebrews 1:1-3) 4) Through the activity and witness of the Christian church The people in the church are the body of Christ on earth. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31) Jesus uses Christians through the church to reveal the truth of the human spiritual condition and to help people be reconciled with God through faith in Jesus finished work on the cross. (2 Corinthians 5:11-21) Jesus also uses Christians to show the world how to live a life that pleases God and how to get prepared for eternity in a new heaven and earth (Romans 12:1-2). The entire book of 1 Peter gives many practical examples for living a life that pleases God. Here are a few examples of spiritual truth from the bible that everyone should know: a) God created human beings in his image. A body, soul (mind, will, emotions) and a spirit (Genesis 1:27). b) God has numbered the days of our lives (Psalm 39:4).and knows the number of hairs on everyone’s head (Luke 12:7). c) Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard (Romans 3:23). d) The penalty for our sin is physical and eternal death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23). e) God loves all human beings and sent Jesus to save everyone who would believe (John 3:16). f) God doesn’t want anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). g) No one can separate us from God’s love once we have believed (Romans 8:31-38). h) Jesus is coming again to judge every human being. Every person who has a personal relationship with him will be part of his new heaven and earth (Matthew 25:31-46). Everyone who rejected Jesus will face God’s white throne judgement (Revelation 20:11-15). The truth revealed by God in the bible cannot all be understood by one quick cursory examination. This book can be studied for a lifetime and new spiritual truth will continually come to light by revelation from the Holy Spirit. This is like the process of understanding God’s creation of the physical universe. In ancient times many people had spiritual superstitions about physical things they couldn’t explain. Terrible storms, droughts and other disasters meant that the gods were angry with the people. Today we know how weather is created and we can predict and forewarn the coming of disasters like hurricanes, etc. However, we are still learning about the causes of weather patterns (ie global warming). So too, with the understanding of the scriptures, that comes by revelation from the Holy Spirit. We read, study, discuss, pray and search for answers to life’s questions and problems. God then opens our minds and hearts to understand and apply new truth that will make our lives more abundantly fulfilling and deeply satisfying. But truth we discover is a function of the passion of our pursuit (see Mark 4:11-25) and our teacher.

The truth is we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 and Romans 3;9-10. We have no way to pay the debt. Jesus died for sinners. He paid the debt and set us free. John 3:18 Believers are no longer condemned to hell. Unbelievers are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. First John 1;8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. We are all sinners. First John 1:10. If we say we have not sinned, we call God a liar. We are all sinners. Jesus died for sinners. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus paid the debt and set us free. No longer condemned to hell, but now go to heaven. The GIFT of God is eternal life. No one can earn it. It can not be worked for or payed for. It can only be received as a free GIFT. Romans 3:26-28 For He is the just and the justifier of them that believe in Jesus. Where is boasting then? IT is excluded. By what law? By the law of works? Nay, but by the law of FAITH. Therefore we conclude a man is justified by FAITH apart from the deeds of the law. You can not boast in a free gift. If Jesus had not died and paid our sin debt in full, past, present, and future sins we have not even thought of yet, Romans 4:7-8, no one would be saved. We have to be as righteous as God to go to heaven, and no one is. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputeth righteousness APART FROM WORKS. Our sin debt was paid in full and we can never be condemned to hell again. John 3:18.
