Jesus spoke about the destruction of the temple and the signs of the end times. He ended with, "Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." (Matthew 24:32)

He said this around 30-33 AD.

Now, the temple was destroyed in 70 AD.

With this, I can approximate a generation as 37 to 40 years. A thousand generations is approximately 37,000 to 40,000 years.

1,000 gen x 40 yr/gen = 40,000 yr, but I think that God through Moses (who penned this verse in Deuteronomy 7:9) meant "for all time." This is how this translation renders is,

NIRV
"So I want you to realize that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God. He keeps his covenant for all time to come. He keeps it with those who love him and obey his commandments. He shows them his love."

According to Psalm 90:10:
The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

70-80 years is a generation.
