Did Jesus die to 'destroy the power of the enemy with his own weapon'?
That is, did Jesus need to die, specifically, to destroy the power of death?
1 Corinthians 15:54 - 55
ESV - 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?"

Jesus Christ died to defeat sin at the cross. He defeated death when He rose from the grave on day three. We also defeat both when we have faith (belief) that this is true (1 Cor 15:1-4). Our faith places us in Him where we are then ETERNALLY protected! Rom 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Rom 8:34 "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us." 2 Cor 5:14 "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:" 1 Thes 5:10 "Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him." Gal 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." 2 Cor 13:4 "For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you." 2 Tim 2:11 "It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:" Phil 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." 2 Cor 5:17-21 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
