In what manner did Jesus' parents travel to Bethlehem when Mary was pregnant with Jesus?

For example: Alone, or with a crowd? Did Mary ride a donkey while pregnant with Jesus to Bethleham? Everyone believes she rode on a donkey but I cannot find scripture on that.
