Was Jesus in the Old Testament?

Was He mentioned? Did He make an appearance directly?

Daniel 3:24-25 KJV
[24] Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. [25] He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

This is one place that the son of God is mentioned.

Genesis 3:14-15 KJV
[14] And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

What this is talking about, is that Jesus is the seed that God is referring to, to crush the serpent (Satan). At the time of the rapture.

The evangelist, Luke, in the gospel of Luke said of Jesus Himself: “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he [Jesus] expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” Luke 24:27

Although Jesus is not mentioned by name in the Old Testament, He made appearances directly, I would say, for sure!

Here is just a partial list of where Jesus can be seen in the Old Testament:

Genesis 16:7-13; 18:1-3, 10, 13, 17, 22; 31:11-13; 32:24-28; 48:16; Hosea 12:3-4; Exodus 3:2; 13:21; 14:19; 23:20-23,; 32:34; Numbers 22:22-27; 22:31-35; Joshua 5:13-15, 23; Judges 6:12-22; 13:3-22; I Kings 9:2, 2 Kings 1:3, 15; 19:35; I Chronicles 21:12, 15-16, 18, 30; Psalms 34:7; 35:5-6; Isaiah 37:36; Daniel 3:25, 28; 7:13; 8:25; 10:5-6; Zechariah 1:11-12; 3:1, 5.

Jesus may not be named directly in the Old Testament, but He was absolutely there. He even said so Himself:

“Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself.”
—Luke 24:27

That’s Jesus teaching that the whole Old Testament points to Him—from start to finish.

Though His name “Jesus” isn’t mentioned, He shows up in prophecies, symbols, and—yes—direct appearances. Often He’s called “the Angel of the LORD”, a divine messenger who speaks as God, accepts worship, and forgives sins—things only God can do.

Here are just a few places where I believe Jesus appeared in person:

Genesis 16 & 18 – Hagar and Abraham meet the Angel of the LORD, who speaks as God Himself.

Genesis 32 – Jacob wrestles a “man” and says, “I’ve seen God face to face.”

Exodus 3 – The Angel in the burning bush says, “I am the God of your father.”

Joshua 5 – The Commander of the Lord’s army accepts Joshua’s worship.

Daniel 3 – In the fiery furnace, a fourth man appears “like a son of the gods.”

Daniel 7 – The “Son of Man” comes on the clouds and is given glory and dominion.

These and other verses point clearly to Jesus—long before Bethlehem. He was active all along, revealing God, rescuing His people, and preparing the way for His coming.

Jesus is all over the Old Testament—if we have eyes to see Him.

John 8:56: Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

Lord Jesus has revealed unto us in the scriptures, “No man can come to Him, except the Father which hath sent Him will draw him to Him, and He will raise him up at the last day.” The ones who were drawn to Him, Abraham and Moses, were standing there, where He ascended on the earth. A day will come when those on the earth shall see, “The Son of man shall ascend up where he was before.” For our father Abraham rejoiced to see His day, for he saw it, and was glad. (John 6:44,62/8:56) Lord Jesus appeared unto Abraham in the plains of Mam’-re when he sat in the tent door. For three men stood by him, and he ran to meet them and bowed himself toward the ground. After the two men (angels) who left turned their faces and went towards Sodom, Lord Jesus stood with him and communed with him, and Lord Jesus then went on His way. (Gen 18:1-2,22,33)

The Spiritual Rock that appeared unto Moses in a flame of fire out of the midst of the bush was sent by God the Father to lead Moses. The Spiritual Rock that followed the Israelites, that Rock was Christ, our Lord Jesus. (1Cor 10:4) For the Written Laws of Moses and the Prophets and the Book of Psalms reveal unto us concerning our Lord Jesus, for Moses, who believed in Him, wrote of Him. (Luke 20:42-44/24:44/John 5:46/Psalm 110:1) God the Father sent an Angel before Moses and told him to obey His voice, for My Name is in Him. This was the Rock, our Christ, Lord Jesus, who then told Moses to hew two tablets of stone like unto the first one which he broke. Lord Jesus then spoke to him the commandments, and said unto Moses, “Write thou these words, for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and Israel.” (Exo 23:21-22/34:1,27-28)

Daniel had a purpose in his heart, not to defile himself at times, for he was brought by God the Father with tender love. God the Father revealed unto him all secrets and dreams, which Daniel did not want to take credit for, showing his wisdom that he had, but revealed to one who understood not the visions that they had. (Dan 1:8-9/2:28-30) For a time came when Sha’-drach, Me’-sjach, and A-bed’-ne-go did not worship the idols which Neb-u-chad-nez’-zar made, images of gold, and were cast in a burning fiery furnace. The men who bound them, the flame of the fire slew them, and not Sha’-drach, Me’-sjach, and A-bed’-ne-go, and they saw four men loose walking in the midst of the fire. The form of the fourth was like the Son of God. Neb-u-chad-nez’-zar saw as Daniel revealed unto him that there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets. (Dan 2:28/3:6,20,22,25) The scriptures reveal unto us that when you shall see the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel the prophet, it was the Lord Jesus who stood by the banks of U’-lai. (Mat 24:15/Dan 8:15-16)

Genesis 18:1-2: And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mam’-re: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground.
