Working on Sunday is definitely not a sin. Working on Sunday is not prohibited in the Bible. The idea that Christians should not be working on Sunday comes from a misunderstanding of Old Testament ...

Working on the first day of the week, aka Sunday, is purely normal. Sunday is a normal working day, like Tuesday or Thursday.
What is sinful is to work on the seventh day Sabbath, aka Saturday. That one is a sacred day, hallowed at creation. Gen 2:2-3.

Believers, that is Yisrael, both genealogical and spiritual, are commanded to observe the Sabbath of YHWH. It is unfortunate that people accept that they are now part of the Commonwealth of Yisrael, and want to share in its promises, but shy away from its very identifying mark, the Sabbath of YHWH. Eze 20:20,12.

Bless.

The Sabbath was created and consecrated long before the nation of Israel came to be: Gen. 2:1-3. Jesus Christ and all the first century Christians observed the Sabbath. I will appreciate if one can point out anywhere in the Bible where observance of the Sabbath has been done away with. The Sabbath will always be there even in the New Earth and New Heavens: Isaiah 66:23-24.

Sunday is the 1st day of the week, and there is no prohibition against working on that day.

But, of all the days of the week, there is only one day that starts with "Remember..", the 7th day, Sabbath. We should keep it "holy".

As to how one keeps it "holy", no one should judge you "on Sabbath day" according to Paul (Colossians 2:16-17). With the Spirit guiding us, we will know how to "keep it holy".

"Is working on Sunday a sin?"

If working on the Sabbath is a sin then I am a sinner. Personally, of the many sins I commit, working on Sunday isn't on the list. I work for our city's fire department. I get paid to do a job. My work schedule is 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty. Therefore I am scheduled to work every third Sabbath. Whether you believe Saturday or Sunday is the Sabbath, it doesn't matter. Pick any day of the week and I work every third one. (It's just the way the math works.)

Having said this, I believe you must search your heart and the Scriptures. If it bothers you to work on a Sunday, check with your employer to see if there are alternatives. I could trade days with someone, but that person may be a Christian also and would be working on a Sunday. (For some reason they won't let us shut down the fire department. They expect us to show up for work. Can you believe that?;-)

Another alternative: I'm lucky to belong to a church body that live streams the Sunday services and archives them for later listening. I miss gathering with the corporate body of believers, but I can still be fed by Word through modern technology.

God provides for His children. He may provide you with a different job that has a different work schedule. If that's not an option and you have to work on Sunday, could it be possible that in God's sovereignty He has provided you with a job in order to provide for your family?

The best answer I can give is to pray to God and search the Scriptures for guidance. Matthew 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28, 3:1-6, 12:28-34, Luke 6:1-11, 12:1-7, 14:1-6 are good starting points.

Is working on Sunday a sin? To answer this question we firstly have to ask, "What happens on Sunday? Is it a day where Christians gather together or assembly together? Do Christians do this because of an instruction given in Hebrews:11:25? Do not forsake the gathering or the coming together.
We know the Jews gather on Saturday because of the Law. We know the Christians assembled on the first day of the Week, which is Sunday. There must be a reason why God laid down this law.

The Bible says this day must be kept holy unto The Lord. May I ask, if the church started to assemble on the first day of the week to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus as the founder and head of His church, if this day has been set aided by the apostles, how much more must His church do this to show their appreciation?

The assembling on Sunday has nothing to do with law (if one says Jesus has come to take away the law, therefore we are not under the law.) Yet it was Jesus who said if you just look at a woman lustfully you have already commuted adultery. If you look at one angrily you already killed that person.
Jesus did not come to abolish the law; rather he came to fulfill the law. Just to remind our readers, Jesus followed the law to the tee; he kept the law to perfection. What Jesus abolished was the ceremonial law. This means man can not earn salvation. It is the work of God through faith and Grace in Jesus Christ our lord.

Concerning what to eat and drink and the sabbaths mentioned in Colosians 2:16-17 we need to ask ourselves who was Paul speaking to and why. It was because the Jews had come into the church, those who were brought up with circumcision, abstaining from certain foods, and to keep the seventh day as holy.

The apostle was saying they now do not have to worry about what to eat, but to just give thanks and eat. Cncerning the sabbath, I believe he was saying you do not have to observe the sabbath on a Saturday, but meet with us on Sunday the first day because our Lord arose on the first day.

May I ask readers and scholars why has this now become an issue? Church from the beginning gathered on a Sunday. To my knowledge Christisns all over the world were in the church on Sunday morning. Shops were closed because Sunday was regarded as the Christian Sabbath.

Regarding Matk :2:27..why did Jesus say "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Was Jesus saying we must not honor the sabbath day.? Yet he kept it the fullest; he new exactly where to be on the Sabbath Day.

What did Jesus mean when he said the sabbath is for man, not man for Sabbath? This simply means there will be times you have to do certain things, and not because you want to do them. Situation and circumstance may prevent from gathering or assembling with the saints, like when your house is on fire or your mule is stuck in a hole. Or when you attend to the sick in hospital, or do some type of work where your services are needed to serve the warfare of humanity. That indeed is applauded, bit not working on the Sabbath to enrich the welfare of the rich. Do you think the story of the rich man in the bible who wants to build bigger barns, probably at the expense of forsaking the assembling of the saints on the Sabbath.

In my conclusion I would like for you to read the gospel of John, the 6th chapter, verse 60. The disciples found the teaching of a Jesus hard. In verse 66 they stopped following The Lord. These men were disciples. The question we need to ask is, "What happened to these disciples? Did they follow their own teaching? Make it a little simpler? The road indeed is narrow and few shall find it..

May I conclude by saying that I am a scholar wanting to learn from you....I am very open to listen to your thoughts.

Stay blessed
