David was afraid of God that day, saying, "How can I bring the ark of God to me?"
Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests regularly blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.
So all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark.
"He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant.
"He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
"Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
"You shall put in it the ark of the Testimony, and partition off the ark with the veil.
Therefore they sent and gathered to themselves all the lords of the Philistines, and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" And they answered, "Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried away to Gath." So they carried the ark of the God of Israel away.
"And you shall put into the ark the Testimony which I will give you.
Now the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, hung up the veil of the covering, and partitioned off the ark of the Testimony, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.
David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.
The ark of the LORD remained in the house of ObedE'dom the Gittite three months. And the LORD blessed ObedE'dom and all his household.
"and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we have not inquired at it since the days of Saul."
The ark of God remained with the family of ObedE'dom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of ObedE'dom and all that he had.
So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of ObedE'dom with joy.
And so it was, when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bulls and seven rams.
Then David said, "No one may carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever."
