Israel Crosses the Jordan
Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out a from Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over.
So it was, b after three days, that the officers went through the camp;
and they commanded the people, saying, c "When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, d and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.
e "Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before."
And Joshua said to the people, f "Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you."
Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, g "Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people." So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.
And the LORD said to Joshua, "This day I will begin to h exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, i as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
"You shall command j the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, 'When you have come to the edge of the water of the Jordan, k you shall stand in the Jordan.' "
So Joshua said to the children of Israel, "Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God."
And Joshua said, "By this you shall know that l the living God is among you, and that He will without fail m drive out from before you the n Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:
"Behold, the ark of the covenant of o the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan.
"Now therefore, p take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe.
"And it shall come to pass, q as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, r the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they s shall stand as a heap."
So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the t ark of the covenant before the people,
and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and u the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the v Jordan overflows all its banks w during the whole time of harvest),
that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside x Zaretan. So the waters that went down y into the Sea of the Arabah, z the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; a and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan.

Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there.
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying.
"Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess.'"
So they departed from the mountain of the LORD on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them for the three days' journey, to search out a resting place for them.
So Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.
That Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying:
You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.

And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from every tribe.
Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had appointed from the children of Israel, one man from every tribe.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan.
He divided the sea and caused them to pass through; And He made the waters stand up like a heap.
The sea saw it and fled; Jordan turned back.
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen.
Which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David.
"And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap."
1 Chronicles 12:15
These are the ones who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all those in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?
"Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan Against the dwelling place of the strong; But I will suddenly make him run away from her. And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? Who will arraign Me? And who is that shepherd Who will withstand Me?"
And it came to pass, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet touched the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks as before.
Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho.
Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.
