Judgment on Edom
m Against Edom.
Thus says the LORD of hosts:
n " Is wisdom no more in Teman?
o Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom p vanished?
Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of q Dedan!
For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,
The time that I will punish him.
If grape-gatherers came to you,
Would they not leave some gleaning grapes?
If thieves by night,
Would they not destroy until they have enough?
s But I have made Esau bare;
I have uncovered his secret places,
And he shall not be able to hide himself.
His descendants are plundered,
His brethren and his neighbors,
And t he is no more.
Leave your fatherless children,
I will preserve them alive;
And let your widows trust in Me."
For thus says the LORD: "Behold, u those whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunk. And are you the one who will altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it.
"For v I have sworn by Myself," says the LORD, "that w Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual wastes."
x I have heard a message from the LORD,
And an ambassador has been sent to the nations:
"Gather together, come against her,
And rise up to battle!
"For indeed, I will make you small among nations,
Despised among men.
Your fierceness has deceived you,
The y pride of your heart,
O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock,
Who hold the height of the hill!
Though you make your a nest as high as the eagle,
b I will bring you down from there," says the LORD.
" Edom also shall be an astonishment;
c Everyone who goes by it will be astonished
And will hiss at all its plagues.
d As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah
And their neighbors," says the LORD,
"No one shall remain there,
Nor shall a son of man dwell in it.
"Behold, e he shall come up like a lion from f the floodplain of the Jordan
Against the dwelling place of the strong;
But I will suddenly make him run away from her.
And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her?
For g who is like Me?
Who will arraign Me?
And h who is that shepherd
Who will withstand Me?"
i Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Edom,
And His purposes that He has proposed against the inhabitants of Teman:
Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out;
Surely He shall make their dwelling places desolate with them.
j The earth shakes at the noise of their fall;
At the cry its noise is heard at the Red Sea.
Behold, k He shall come up and fly like the eagle,
And spread His wings over Bozrah;
The heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be
Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
Now when Job's three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place - Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him.
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; Pharaoh's wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I am the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?
The wise men are ashamed, They are dismayed and taken. Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD; So what wisdom do they have?
The burden against Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, O you traveling companies of Dedanites.
Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who are in the farthest corners.
But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.
Then behold, at eventide, trouble! And before the morning, he is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, And the lot of those who rob us.
"For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth," says the LORD of hosts.'
And said: "By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son -
I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath.
"Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: 'Behold, I have sworn by My great name,' says the LORD, 'that My name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, "The Lord GOD lives."
The Lord GOD has sworn by Himself, The LORD God of hosts says: "I abhor the pride of Jacob, And hate his palaces; Therefore I will deliver up the city And all that is in it.
And when Bela died, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place.
1 Chronicles 1:44
And when Bela died, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place.
The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength? - "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
But I will send a fire upon Teman, Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom (We have heard a report from the LORD, And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying, "Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle"):
"We have heard the pride of Moab (He is exceedingly proud), Of his loftiness and arrogance and pride, And of the haughtiness of his heart."
Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high?
Isaiah 14:13 - 15
For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north.
Though they dig into hell, From there My hand shall take them; Though they climb up to heaven, From there I will bring them down.
To make their land desolate and a perpetual hissing; Everyone who passes by it will be astonished And shake his head.
"For I have sworn by Myself," says the LORD, "that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual wastes."
Because of the wrath of the LORD She shall not be inhabited, But she shall be wholly desolate. Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be horrified And hiss at all her plagues.
Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns.

Therefore, as I live," Says the LORD of hosts, ...
"Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan Against the dwelling place of the strong; But I will make them suddenly run away from her. And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? Who will arraign Me? And who is that shepherd Who will withstand Me?"
And as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest).
If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?
Who is like You, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.
No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up. Who then is able to stand against Me?
The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, "Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:
For the LORD of hosts has purposed, And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Babylon, And His purposes that He has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out; Surely He will make their dwelling place desolate with them.
At the noise of the taking of Babylon The earth trembles, And the cry is heard among the nations.
Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyre: 'Will the coastlands not shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded cry, when slaughter is made in the midst of you?
Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall; Yes, the coastlands by the sea are troubled at your departure."
For thus says the LORD: "Behold, one shall fly like an eagle, And spread his wings over Moab.
Kerioth is taken, And the strongholds are surprised; The mighty men's hearts in Moab on that day shall be Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.
