The burden against the Wilderness of the Sea.
As a whirlwinds in the South pass through,
So it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.
A distressing vision is declared to me;
b The treacherous dealer deals treacherously,
And the plunderer plunders.
c Go up, O Elam!
Besiege, O Media!
All its sighing I have made to cease.
Therefore d my loins are filled with pain;
e Pangs have taken hold of me, like the pangs of a woman in labor.
I was distressed when I heard it;
I was dismayed when I saw it.
My heart wavered, fearfulness frightened me;
f The night for which I longed He turned into fear for me.
g Prepare the table,
Set a watchman in the tower,
Eat and drink.
Arise, you princes,
Anoint the shield!
For thus has the Lord said to me:
"Go, set a watchman,
Let him declare what he sees."
And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen,
A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels,
And he listened earnestly with great care.
Then he cried, "A lion, my Lord!
I stand continually on the h watchtower in the daytime;
I have sat at my post every night.
And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!"
Then he answered and said,
i "Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
And j all the carved images of her gods
He has broken to the ground."
k Oh, my threshing and the grain of my floor!
That which I have heard from the LORD of hosts,
The God of Israel,
I have declared to you.
l The burden against Dumah.
He calls to me out of m Seir,
"Watchman, what of the night?
Watchman, what of the night?"
The watchman said,
"The morning comes, and also the night.
If you will inquire, inquire;
Return! Come back!"
n The burden against Arabia.
In the forest in Arabia you will lodge,
O you traveling companies o of Dedanites.
O inhabitants of the land of Tema,
Bring water to him who is thirsty;
With their bread they met him who fled.
For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword,
From the bent bow, and from the distress of war.
For thus the LORD has said to me: "Within a year, p according to the year of a hired man, all the glory of q Kedar will fail;
"and the remainder of the number of archers, the mighty men of the people of Kedar, will be diminished; for the LORD God of Israel has spoken it."

Then the LORD will be seen over them, And His arrow will go forth like lightning. The Lord GOD will blow the trumpet, And go with whirlwinds from the south.
Woe to you who plunder, though you have not been plundered; And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you! When you cease plundering, You will be plundered; When you make an end of dealing treacherously, They will deal treacherously with you.
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, Who will not regard silver; And as for gold, they will not delight in it.
Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield.
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying.
My heart will cry out for Moab; His fugitives shall flee to Zoar, Like a three-year-old heifer. For by the Ascent of Luhith They will go up with weeping; For in the way of Horonaim They will raise up a cry of destruction.
Therefore my heart shall resound like a harp for Moab, And my inner being for Kir Heres.
And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames.
In the morning you shall say, 'Oh, that it were evening!' And at evening you shall say, 'Oh, that it were morning!' because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see.
In their excitement I will prepare their feasts; I will make them drunk, That they may rejoice, And sleep a perpetual sleep And not awake," says the LORD.
In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected.
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty ...
Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughte...
But these two things shall come to you In a mom...
All of you, assemble yourselves, and hear! Who ...
Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed....
"PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and give...
And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being...
And another angel followed, saying, "Babylon is...
And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying...
Bel bows down, Nebo stoops; Their idols were on the beasts and on the cattle. Your carriages were heavily loaded, A burden to the weary beast.
"Declare among the nations, Proclaim, and set up a standard; Proclaim - do not conceal it - Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is shamed. Merodach is broken in pieces; Her idols are humiliated, Her images are broken in pieces.'
I will punish Bel in Babylon, And I will bring out of his mouth what he has swallowed; And the nations shall not stream to him anymore. Yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor When it is time to thresh her; Yet a little while And the time of her harvest will come.
"Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion; For I will make your horn iron, And I will make your hooves bronze; You shall beat in pieces many peoples; I will consecrate their gain to the LORD, And their substance to the Lord of the whole earth."
Mishma, Dumah, Massa.
1 Chronicles 1:30
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema.
Arab, Dumah, Eshean.
Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
Against Edom. Thus says the LORD of hosts: " Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?
Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it.
The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom (We have heard a report from the LORD, And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying, "Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle"):
All the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed multitude who dwell in the desert.
Against Kedar and against the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon shall strike. Thus says the LORD: "Arise, go up to Kedar, And devastate the men of the East!
The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
1 Chronicles 1:9
The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raama, and Sabtecha. The sons of Raama were Sheba and Dedan.
1 Chronicles 1:32
Now the sons born to Keturah, Abraham's concubine, were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan were Sheba and Dedan.
Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who are in the farthest corners.
The men of Dedan were your traders; many isles were the market of your hand. They brought you ivory tusks and ebony as payment.
But now the LORD has spoken, saying, "Within three years, as the years of a hired man, the glory of Moab will be despised with all that great multitude, and the remnant will be very small and feeble.
Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
Song of Solomon 1:5
I am dark, but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, Like the tents of Kedar, Like the curtains of Solomon.
Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains.
All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory.
Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your regular merchants. They traded with you in lambs, rams, and goats.
