The Day of the Lord
For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob,
Because they are filled g with eastern ways;
They are h soothsayers like the Philistines,
i And they are pleased with the children of foreigners.
j Their land is also full of silver and gold,
And there is no end to their treasures;
Their land is also full of horses,
And there is no end to their chariots.
k Their land is also full of idols;
They worship the work of their own hands,
That which their own fingers have made.
People bow down,
And each man humbles himself;
Therefore do not forgive them.
l Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust,
From the terror of the LORD
And the glory of His majesty.
The lofty looks of man shall be m humbled,
The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down,
And the LORD alone shall be exalted n in that day.
For the day of the LORD of hosts
Shall come upon everything proud and lofty,
Upon everything lifted up -
And it shall be brought low -
Upon all o the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up,
And upon all the oaks of Bashan;
p Upon all the high mountains,
And upon all the hills that are lifted up;
Upon every high tower,
And upon every fortified wall;
q Upon all the ships of Tarshish,
And upon all the beautiful sloops.
The loftiness of man shall be bowed down,
And the haughtiness of men shall be brought low;
The LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
But the idols He shall utterly abolish.
They shall go into the r holes of the rocks,
And into the caves of the earth,
s From the terror of the LORD
And the glory of His majesty,
When He arises t to shake the earth mightily.
In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver
And his idols of gold,
Which they made, each for himself to worship,
To the moles and bats,
To go into the clefts of the rocks,
And into the crags of the rugged rocks,
From the terror of the LORD
And the glory of His majesty,
When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
u Sever yourselves from such a man,
Whose v breath is in his nostrils;
For of what account is he?

And he took up his oracle and said: "Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, From the mountains of the east. 'Come, curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!
For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.
But they mingled with the Gentiles And learned their works.
"But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the LORD has said to you, 'You shall not return that way again.'
And you said, "No, for we will flee on horses" - Therefore you shall flee! And, "We will ride on swift horses " - Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD!
And it shall be in that day," says the LORD, "That I will cut off your horses from your midst And destroy your chariots.
The workman molds an image, The goldsmith overspreads it with gold, And the silversmith casts silver chains.
Whoever is too impoverished for such a contribution Chooses a tree that will not rot; He seeks for himself a skillful workman To prepare a carved image that will not totter.
But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, If they can save you in the time of your trouble; For according to the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah.
They shall go into the holes of the rocks, And into the caves of the earth, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
To go into the clefts of the rocks, And into the crags of the rugged rocks, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.
And said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.
People shall be brought down, Each man shall be humbled, And the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.
"And it shall be, in that day," Says the LORD, " That you will call Me 'My Husband,' And no longer call Me 'My Master,'
Indeed the cypress trees rejoice over you, And the cedars of Lebanon, Saying, 'Since you were cut down, No woodsman has come up against us.
Open your doors, O Lebanon, That fire may devour your cedars.
Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen, Because the mighty trees are ruined. Wail, O oaks of Bashan, For the thick forest has come down.
There will be on every high mountain And on every high hill Rivers and streams of waters, In the day of the great slaughter, When the towers fall.
1 Kings 10:22
For the king had merchant ships at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys.
The burden against Tyre. Wail, you ships of Tarshish! For it is laid waste, So that there is no house, no harbor; From the land of Cyprus it is revealed to them.
Wail, you ships of Tarshish! For your strength is laid waste.
Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me; And the ships of Tarshish will come first, To bring your sons from afar, Their silver and their gold with them, To the name of the LORD your God, And to the Holy One of Israel, Because He has glorified you.
Also the high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, Shall be destroyed. The thorn and thistle shall grow on their altars; They shall say to the mountains, "Cover us!" And to the hills, "Fall on us!
In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils.
