"Call out now;
Is there anyone who will answer you?
And to which of the holy ones will you turn?
For wrath kills a foolish man,
And envy slays a simple one.
a I have seen the foolish taking root,
But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place.
His sons are b far from safety,
They are crushed in the gate,
And c there is no deliverer.
Because the hungry eat up his harvest,
Taking it even from the thorns,
And a snare snatches their substance.
For affliction does not come from the dust,
Nor does trouble spring from the ground;
Yet man is d born to trouble,
As the sparks fly upward.
"But as for me, I would seek God,
And to God I would commit my cause -
Who does great things, and unsearchable,
Marvelous things without number.
e He gives rain on the earth,
And sends waters on the fields.
f He sets on high those who are lowly,
And those who mourn are lifted to safety.
g He frustrates the devices of the crafty,
So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.
He catches the h wise in their own craftiness,
And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.
They meet with darkness in the daytime,
And grope at noontime as in the night.
But i He saves the needy from the sword,
From the mouth of the mighty,
And from their hand.
j So the poor have hope,
And injustice shuts her mouth.
"Behold, k happy is the man whom God corrects;
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
l For He bruises, but He binds up;
He wounds, but His hands make whole.
m He shall deliver you in six troubles,
Yes, in seven n no evil shall touch you.
o In famine He shall redeem you from death,
And in war from the power of the sword.
p You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,
And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.
You shall laugh at destruction and famine,
And q you shall not be afraid of the r beasts of the earth.
s For you shall have a covenant with the stones of the field,
And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
You shall know that your tent is in peace;
You shall visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss.
You shall also know that t your descendants shall be many,
And your offspring u like the grass of the earth.
v You shall come to the grave at a full age,
As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season.
Behold, this we have w searched out;
It is true.
Hear it, and know for yourself."

I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.
Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.
Jeremiah 12:1 - 3
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?
Salvation is far from the wicked, For they do not seek Your statutes.
Let there be none to extend mercy to him, Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble.
Job 36:27 - 29
For He draws up drops of water, Which distill as rain from the mist.
Job 37:6 - 11
For He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth'; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.
To cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, A wilderness in which there is no man.
He raises the poor out of the dust, And lifts the needy out of the ash heap.
And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had brought their plot to nothing, that all of us returned to the wall, everyone to his work.
Therefore men fear Him; He shows no partiality to any who are wise of heart.
1 Corinthians 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness".
The roaring of the lion, The voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions are broken.
The old lion perishes for lack of prey, And the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like You, Delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?
1 Samuel 2:8
He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. "For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, And He has set the world upon them.
Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction, And makes their families like a flock.

Now see that I, even I, am He, And there is no God besides Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.
1 Samuel 2:6
The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up.
1 Samuel 2:7
The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.
Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound.
Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.
For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, And from their hand.
You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.
No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, The lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain," Says the LORD.
I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
In that day I will make a covenant for them With the beasts of the field, With the birds of the air, And with the creeping things of the ground. Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth, To make them lie down safely.
In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, On the top of the mountains; Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon; And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.
The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.
