Did John leave the island of Patmos alive?
Specifically, are there any Bible verses that mention his fate?
Revelation 1:9
ESV - 9 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

The Revelation was received on the Lords day by John on the isle of a Patmos(Rev. 1: 9-10), off the coast of Asia, not far from Ephesus. The exact date is not known. He was one of the Twelve; son of Zebedee and brother of James. In his early life he was s fisherman. He was one of the inner circle of three who were at the raising of Jairus daughter, at the Transfiguration, and in Gethsemanane. In his own Gospel he refers to himself as "the disciple whom Jesus loved". There at frequent references to him at the crucifixion and resurrection. In Acts he appear s but seldom (acts 3:1, 11;4: 13;8:14) Paul refers to his meeting with him in Jerusalem (Gal. 2:9). In Rev. 1:9 jog tells of his banishment to Patmos. After which the Bible is silent about his whereabouts. It's interesting to note that the last five verses of Saint John make reference to the other disciples believing that John should not die (John 21:23) yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? According to Wikipedia, John was placed on Patmos due to Christian persecution under the Roman Emperor Domitian. There's also a tradition that the Emperor had boiled him in oil and he received no harm. At which point he was banished to Patmos. There's also tradition that when the Emperor died he's successor released him and he went to Ephesus. However, if you look to the Bible for Johns whereabouts. It ends at Patmos.

I for once agree with the tradition or "hearsay." In Revelation 11:10 the angel that released the book to John (to eat) informed John that he (John) must prophesy "again" before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings. Could it be that John's ministry account ends with Revelation? It may be "possible" that John is one of the "two" witnesses during tribulation? (John 21:23) yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
