Is it wrong to listen to old music by a Christian artist who now says he is gay?

Do the actions of the individual in embracing sin mean we should not listen to his former music?

This is an interesting question and it worries quite a lot of new Christians. It's a dilemma that happens in many areas. For instance many Christians wondered if it was right to read books by a famous pastor after he came out as being gay, and they threw his books out.

This is understandable on one level if you have been personally disappointed by the individual and you react against them, and we understand that.

But the fact is that a person's writing or their music is quite independent of the person. The books that were once helpful inn the past, still contain the same truths and are still helpful now. The music that was once uplifting is still uplifting now.

Just because a person has fallen or stumbled does not mean we should treat them or their music with disdain. After all if we only read books and listened to music by people who had never sinned, we would have to empty the world of literature and close the ears of all mankind. And we ourselves would never write another word or sing another song, would we?

Regards
Philip
