If the Bible isn't the Christian's source for morality, then the question needs to be asked, "What should be?" The Christian worldview is based on two foundational axioms: 1) God exists, and 2) God...

Morality is the binding of one's self not to do certain things even though one can afford to do it, or it is legal to do it, self restraint not to exercise unlimited power over another. "Thou shall not" is Christian morality. It is truth only if God is truth. Christian morality is what prevents man from becoming a wolf to man.

Morality outside the bible is not morality at all. It is what is accepted by society at the time. It is subject to change. What was immoral and illegal in the past is now moral and legal, and vice versa: abortion, gay marriage, slavery.

Bilical morality never changes because God never changes. What was true 4000 years ago is true today and it will be true 4000 years from now.

In conclusion, there is no such thing as morality outside the bible. It is not in our nature.

The bible is our moral authority for believers to keep from the chastening of the Lord, and for rewards in heaven.

First Corinthians 3:11-15, Eternal life is a free gift from God. Our rewards in heaven are based on what we do with the free gift God has given us.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The wrath of God comes on the SONS of disobedience. Sons. Not unbelievers. John 1:12 Those that have received the free gift of eternal life.

God does chasten His children. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

We can lose our life, and our rewards in heaven, but God can not lie. John 6:47. And none of us ever quits sinning completely in this life. Fist John 1:8 and First John 1:10.

If you steal from others, God will see to it you reap what you sow. Not to condemn us, but to bring us back in fellowship with himself. Our relationship never changes, but our fellowship does. Once we become a child of God by faith alone, we are a child of God forever. Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit in whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. John 1:12. Romans 1:16,

Why does only the Bible provide an absolute standard for morality? "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

Michael mentioned Judges 17:6. See also Proverbs 14:12 ESV
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."

Compare Titus 2:5 ESV
"To be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." Oh, how I wish that every female in my family had an older mature Christian woman for her mentor!

If we are to do our duty to God and to the world (Matthew 7:12) as far as treating them the way we want to be treated, then we must honor Christ's illustration of building on the Rock (Matthew 7:25, 27) which I take to mean Christ Himself, the living Word of God, but it also could mean the written Word of God. We can't risk building on shifting sand (Matthew 7:26).

I begin by dispelling this misconception - the Bible is not the source of our morality, God is.

This is what happens when a Christian doesn't study Church History. He fails to understand when the Bible was written and why it was written.

Our standard of morality, God, has been around since eternity. Man's actions, since the creation, is being judged whether moral or immoral. Adam taught this standard to his children, so did Noah and his sons. This standard of morality, called the Noahide laws, were passed on to the rest of the world, centuries before the books of the Bible were complied.
