He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” 

I believe that God can and does perform miracles today. He can perform miracles through us by the power of His Holy Spirit and by faith. Christians themselves cannot do miracles. They can only perform them through the Holy Spirit and by faith.

Why do you want to do a miracle?
To draw people to you? Or to draw people to God? Or is it just a humanitarian desire to help others?
When Paul and Silas was been hailed as Gods for the wonders God did through them, they tore their clothes and said that they were but men. They wanted none of the glory for themselves what belonged to God. They acknowledged that it was God who willed to work through them.
Gods primary aim is our eternal welfare, but He also cares for our mundane need. Let us then go to God on behalf of those whom we love. Let God be sovereign as to how He chooses to answer but let us not limit the possibilities by our unbelief.
Jesus did say that whatever you ask in my name it will be given to you. James writes you ask and you do not receive because you ask doubting.
But let it it not be from a list to be a miracle worker. If our aim is that God be glorified and people be helped, it matters not how God chooses to do it whether through us or someone else, through a miracle or through seemingly ordinary circumstances. God be glorified.
