For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4. "We are to believe and trust in the living Word of God....and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus". 

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:15-17." Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. 

QUESTION:; Does it mention in the Old Testament that the Messiah will die and rise again on the third day? YES! and The prophetic answer is found in the Old Testament in the Book of Hosea. Hosea name means "Salvation". Because of he tragic details of his personal life, Hosea has been known as the brokenhearted prophet. His sorrow provides a good illustration of the brokenhearted Lord in His relationship with sinful mankind.

The answer is found in Hosea 6:2 "HE WILL REVIVE US AFTER TWO DAYS, HE WILL RAISE US UP ON THE THIRD DAY. That we may live before Him."

Hairy Animals

Jesus Himself clearly predicted that He would die and rise again the third day. (Matthew 12:40; Matt 16:21; Matt 17:23)

Mathew 12:38-39 says,
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You." But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.…


Matthew 16:4
A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away.

Mark 8:12
He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it."

Luke 11:29
As the crowds increased, Jesus said, "This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.

Jonah came out of the fish's belly after 3 days and 3 nights. This is the sign. 

Jonah 1:17 
Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Although the time frame is not mentioned there were several references to his resurrection.

Psalms 16:10 "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."

In Acts 2:23 Peter speaks of Christ and essentially quotes David in v. 24 Acts 2:23 " Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:"

v. 24 "Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it."

Again in Acts 2:27 "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."

Acts 2:31 "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."

Paul quotes David in Acts 13:35 "Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption".
