The reference for the verse cited is not given, but it appears to be a partial quote of John 16:16; "A little while and ye shall not see Me: and again, a little while and ye shall see Me because I go to the Father". (KJV) It is important to place verses or passages into their context when attempting to discern the meaning and application of the verse in question to your life. In this instance, since only a partial verse is cited, I am going to infer that the question is "What does this mean?". The rules of hermeneutics, or interpretation need to be followed. Who was the human author; what is the context of the passage or verse; who was the original recipient; what is the original message or meaning of the verse or passage; how does this apply to your life today? By answering these questions, the Scripture becomes clear. The original speaker in this verse is the Lord Jesus the night of His betrayal. The writer is the Apostle John. The purpose of John's gospel is to show Jesus as the Son of God. In the case her, Jesus is telling the apostles that He was leaving them. Jesus had previously stated that He had to leave before the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, could come. This verse also shows that those that are His will see the Lord Jesus again in heaven with the Father. Jesus Himself explains this verse to the apostles later in John 16: 19-22. To gain a better understanding, I suggest that you read the entire passage from John 14:1-18:1 as a whole. This encompasses Jesus' last discourse and His departure to the garden Gethsemane. In John 16:10 Jesus is referring to the time period of His ascension after the resurrection until His final return when they would not physically see Him again.
