For growth rate as a percentage, Islam is growing at a slightly higher rate than Christianity. But, as there are more Christians, as a quantitative number, Christianity currently has more converts than Islam per year.

One of the primary factors in the growth rate of Islam in comparison to Christianity is that Muslims tend to have a higher birthrate than Christians. Statistically, children do grow up to follow the religion of their parents - especially in Islam.

Secondly, and this is more of my opinion, but works based religions tend to attract people more easily than grace. While grace is a beautiful thing, and freeing for those of us who have found it, people tend to have this innate pull towards working things out for themselves.

Even as Christians we have to remind ourselves that works are evidence of our faith, and that what we need to do is Trust Christ more, not Work for Christ more.

That's why the Mormons in the neighborhood always have the prettiest lawn, the most children, and the strictest rules - their religion is works based.
