If by beer you mean strong drink that can get one drunk, my answer is emphatic yes. In the days of Jesus Christ and even in Old Testament times, there has always been strong drinks. The Pharisees even accused Jesus of mingling with drunkards and wine bibbers and even called him a drunkard. Mt 11:19 (The son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, " Look at him! A glutton, and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners" Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.) Mt 24:49 says, And begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards. Lk 12:45 says, "But if the servant says to himself, my master is delayed in coming, and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk" all these happened during the days Jesus was here on earth. You only get drink on strong drink. Strong drink pre- dates Jesus and never stopped after his glorious return to heaven, as can be seen the following two scriptures. Acts 2:15 says, "For these are not drunk as you suppose, since it is only the 3rd hour of the day (9am)" If you notice, drunkards always carry out their act in the night as attested to by 1Thes. 5:17 "Keep awake for those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. Therefore, strong drink or beer existed in the days of our lord Jesus Christ as there is nothing new under the sun. Eccl 9:1c
Yes. Shekar, שֵׁכָ֑ר is an intensely alcoholic, intoxicating liquor (Judges 13:4; Luke 1:15; Isaiah 5:11; Micah 2:11) distilled from corn, honey, or dates. The effects of the use of strong drink are referred to in Psalm 107:27; Isaiah 24:20; 49:26. Its use is prohibited, in Proverbs 20:1.-- Especially see Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” I once quoted this verse to a pro-beer wife of a probably pro-beer Christian couple coming to my church, and she, her husband, and 2 girls didn’t come back. ☹ Beer is usually condemned in the Bible.
