Most Christians throughout the ages have interpreted this verse literally—meaning, they take Paul for his word. Read in that way, the verse would mean we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses: the saints. They cheer us on in our enduring race to heaven, which would mean they are knowledgeable of our lives. Keep fighting the good fight of faith!
